Visit to Temple School

On Wednesday the 24th
January 2007 Chevaliers Archie Young. FSA.SCOT. KCTpl and Robert
Hunter KCTpl, were invited to Temple village primary school to
give the older pupils a short history of the village and
surrounding area.
The children were very happy with what they were told and were
overjoyed by the visual aids, the reason both Chevaliers were
invited was, to help the children design a new school logo.
Unfortunately the village school will close after the summer and
move to Borthwick, it is a great pity that this has to happen,
we feel that this has been a drastic decision by the education
authorities, but these people put it down to streamlining the
system.
We have also found out that the village may also lose its Post
Office in the near future, villages like the ancient one of
Temple relies on its Post Office, should it close then the
villagers will have to travel to Gorebridge to post any letters
or parcels.
Our hearts go out to the parents and the children at the school,
for the upheaval they will endure, and if the Post Office goes
then the village will have lost another bit of its identity.
When we look at this beautiful and very historic village there
are no shops, in years gone by they had quite a few, but sadly
they disappeared one by one, we would like to see the
politicians fight a great deal harder in situations like this,
the fight should be to keep our little villages alive.
We wish the Teachers and pupils of Temple village all the very
best in the near future, and hope that all goes well in their
new venture.
