Campaign to save Gillies'
Hill


Gillies' Hill, by Cambusbarron, Stirling was by tradition
the site of the Scots' Camp for the
Battle of Bannockburn. It is said that it was on
Gillies' Gill that the "Small Folk", the camp followers, made
their appearance at the end of the Battle, persuading the
English that the Scots' Army had reserves that were about to
engage, which caused them to flee the field. There is a
proposal by
Hanson PLC to re-activate the Murrayshall Quarry which would
damage the hill and remove for all
time a site of enormous importance and value to our heritage. We
support the people of Cambusbarron in their campaign to stop
this development.
